Woodhorn - Everyone's home is their castle

In October 2006 ISIS Arts was invited to develop a new screening programme as part of the launch exhibition of Woodhorn.

Woodhorn is a museum with exhibition spaces for contemporary art, archives and a country park in Ashington, Northumberland. It is undergoing a massive redevelopment transforming it into a flagship visitor attraction for the North of England.

The theme for this programme of film and video was 'Everyone's home is their castle':

'Home' and identity is part of an ongoing theme within ISIS Art's programme of work. This programme enabled us to develop the 'home' theme in a new way, and with a European and international dimension.

The theme 'Everyone's home is their castle' lent itself to a broad interpretation from the exploration of different national boundaries to an individual's own personal space, from a refuge to a 'show house', from isolation to Big Brother.

This new programme, featured 14 innovative works by international artists.

The programme was curated by Sharon Bailey, Clymene Christoforou, Adinda van't Klooster (ISIS Arts); independent curator Michelle Hirschhorn and Lesley Hehir (programmer for Woodhorn) to coincide with the opening of Woodhorn's newly built galleries and archive.

The Big M exhibition at Woodhorn was supported by Culture10 and will be presented for a four week period from mid October until mid November. The programme will then form part of a new archive of contemporary material at The Woodhorn Project.
