Co-curated by BEK, and Galleri 3,14, Norway and ISIS Arts, Newcastle Contemporary
South Africa showcases 10 works by both emerging and established artists working
within film. Commenting on the social landscape of South Africa, each artist
attempts to investigate the relationships between place and time; land and people;
past and present; present and future.
The cultural isolation of the apartheid years has made is difficult for artistic endeavour to survive with ease but the international art world began to open to South Africa in 1993 when the Venice Biennale included South African artists for the first time. Embracing the international artistic community was taken a step further with the Johannesburg Biennale in 1995, which brought the international art world to the country.
Taking the form of an exhibition showing at Gallerie 3,14, Norway between 04.06.10 and 08.08.10, in the UK the project will form part of ISIS Arts Empty Shop programme throughout the autumn of 2010. More information to follow.
