At home in europe, borjana ventzislavova
Borjana Ventzislavova is a Bulgarian artist living in Vienna and was in residence at ISIS Arts in the UK.
Borjana'a work examined issues of migration and identity. Through personal stories from different people from different nationalities she drew a common (collective) image about what it could mean to be 'a European'. The questions she asked were the same: Where are you from? How did you come here? Why did you leave your country? What/where is for you “at home”? What is or could be your ideal home? Are you a European? What does it mean for you to be European?
Her video installation consists of 12 monitors with integrated or external speakers, DVD players, headphones and 24 audio splitters. Each monitor features a person, submerged in a water environment, telling of another person's experience of migration from a different country in his or her first language. All films run in a constant loop. Audio is translated into English and heard through the headphones.
