G.H. Hovagimyan, our current artist in residence with Newcastle Gateshead Initiative (NGI) will present his interactive artwork, 3D Karaoke at The Newbridge Project as part of the opening event for Convention Habit or Custom on Friday 26 April.
3D Karaoke is an interactive artwork that uses two Kinect cameras to create a live 3D video. The singer is placed in the 3D space as song lyrics float across the screen. The virtual camera for the 3D space has a fly around virtual camera that can be set on automatic or manipulated to show various camera angles. The sensation of seeing oneself in 3D space is similar to “throwing your voice”, in this case you are in two places at once.
3D Karaoke is being presented by ISIS Arts & Pixel Palace at The NewBridge Project. 3D Karaoke was developed at Pixel Palace and Tyneside Cinema as part of an artist residency programme in 2012.
Convention Habit or Custom is a project by Toby Wilson and Andrew Lloyd, which will run at The Newbridge Project between Friday 26 April - Friday 10 May 2013. To explore the complexities of our conventions, habits and customs Lloyd and Wilson have constructed a hospitable environment loosely based upon the Public House which will host a programme of scheduled and un-scheduled events from a diverse spectrum of individuals, groups and collectives.
