Come to meet and hear about the work of ISIS Arts artist in residence, Borjana Ventzislavova. Borjana will be joining ISIS for an International research residency for June 2012. Borjana was born in Sofia and currently splits her time between Sofia and Vienna.

The event is free and everyone interested is welcome although space is limited, so please RSVP: isis@isisarts.org.uk or ring 0191 261 4407.

The space is not fully accessible so please let us know in advance if you have access needs.

While in residence Borjana Ventzislavovawill concentrate on research for a new video project called 'Radical Cheerleading' which will deal with the current social and political crisis situation of our so called developed capitalist society. Borjana intends to compile texts that will serve as the base for lyrics of political protest songs, collecting such texts from different sources as well as from meetings with different communities. The text will not only contain critique on the system but also ideas and proposals for possible or/and utopian solutions.

Borjana will create cheerleading teams from people of all ages from all over Europe and North America who will perform the texts in the way of 'Radical Cheerleading'.

About Borjana Ventzislavova

Borjana Ventzislavova, (b.1976, Sofia, BG), currently based in Sofia and Vienna; graduated visual media art / digital art at the University for applied arts Vienna (by Peter Weibel, Karl Dudesek, Thomas F├╝rstner).

Working in the fields of photography, film/ video, installation, and new media she deals with issues such as identity and marginalization of individuals, as well as different social groups, migration and cohabitation. In the broader sense, the everyday connections andsocial relations play a central role in her work. She realized series of collaborative projects together with dezentrale medien and nebudu group. Her works have been exhibited internationally in solo and group shows as well as at media art and film festivals.
