Please join us for an Open Studio event with our current residency artist, Satoko Nagashima.
Wednesday 5th February
ISIS Arts Studio
Nagashima is in residence at ISIS Arts throughout January, she is carrying out research to create a new series of paintings and digital animations. Her work explores the difference between Japanese and English culture and the tradition of using colour to embed pattern and meaning. Nagashima’s adapts characters from Japanese language and traditional colour systems to create collages with double entendres, which explores the form of the word as well as their literal and historical interpretation.
Satoko will open up her residency studio on Wednesday 5th February to present the work she has been developing during her time in Newcastle. We invite you to join us anytime between 5-7pm to view the work in progress, meet the artist and enjoy a drink.
Satoko Nagashima was born in Kyoto, Japan and is currently based in South Korea working as an Associate Professor at Daegu University.
Satoko Nagashima’s residency is part of the new self-funded residency programme at ISIS Arts, for more details please visit our opportunities page.
