Corners Xpedition to Northern Ireland
Corners is a four year project connecting artists from the corners of Europe.
We’ve just got back from our first Corners Xpedition to Northern Ireland, exploring a multitude of sites across Belfast, Annaghmakerrig, Derry/Londonderry and Enniskillen for 12 days, collaboratively devising and developing projects with artists and curators from the far-corners of Europe.
Sharon Bailey (ISIS Co-director) and Layla Gaye (UK based artist) attended the Xpedition with over 20 other practitioners.
The idea is to communicate with different audiences and communities at the edges of Europe. The artist, together with country hosts and researchers travel across regions encountering local people and landscapes. Artists will collect stories from one corner of Europe, re-telling them in another. From their experiences, commissions will be developed in each country and presented in public settings.
Corners is a transnational partnership between Intercult (Stockholm), Exodos (Ljubljana), POGON (Zagreb), Drugo more (Rijeka), City Culture Institute (Gdansk), Umea 2014 - European Capital of Culture, Donostia / San Sebastian 2016 - European Capital of Culture, ISIS Arts (Newcastle) and Arts Council of Northern Ireland (Belfast).
