Dominic Smith joined ISIS for a research residency in 2007 to work on 'Invisible Soap Opera'.
Newcastle based Dominic Smith developed a text based invisible soap opera. Dominic built a small virtual private network, invitations were sent out to join the network and participants encouraged to communicate. Several actors also joined the server involving the other in an act of 'invisible theatre'.
Dominic Smith originally studied sculpture and electronic installation, and worked at Tyne and Wear Museums for 5 years in curatorial, outreach, and new media development roles. He is one of the founders of Polytechnic, an artists’ group that re-purposes technology and explores open source methods of project development. His doctoral research examines the relationship between open source production methods, and art/curating methods.
