Building on the success of the Big M, our touring inflatable venue, and the Award winning
Enlightenment commissions, ISIS Arts is creating a Pandal Pavilion, a temporary touring structure to house digital and media art works.
In partnership with Nandita Palchoudhuri of Kolkata (IN) we a developing a collaborative project to re-imagine, design and construct a temporary pavilion based on traditional Indian Pandals. The pandal will be commissioned for the Durga Puja in Kolkata and transported to the UK to serve as a pavilion for visual and media art works.
Pandals are created for the annual Durga Puja to fill the empty spaces of Kolkata as temporary sites of pilgrimage and worship. These unique structures, often lavishly decorated with recyclable materials, are created by community associations, architects and artists.
The Pandal Pavilion will draw on the extraordinary skills of the West Bengali craftsmen to
produce a unique venue, which on the outside will display detailed craftsmanship, and on the inside serve as a contemporary and very functional exhibition space.
The Pandal will be a new alternative exhibition space and will be placed within communities that traditionally have had little access to the arts with the potential to reach a new, diverse audience.
This project is currently under development please check back at a later date for more information.
