The Deep End, Woodhorn Museum

Saturday 12th October - Sunday 12th January

Woodhorn Museum, Ashington, Northumberland

We invite you to join us for the exhibition, The Deep End at Woodhorn Museum. The Deep End is a showcase of digital artworks created by arts & design students from Northumberland College (Ashington) and also features a selection of works from schools and youth groups from across the North East as part of ourOn the Precipice workshop programme during The Big M tour.

The Deep End is a partnership project between Woodhorn Museum, ISIS Arts, Northumberland College and Northumberland Arts Development (NAD). The exhibition is the result of a week-long master class in digital technologies from established artists Lindsay Duncanson and Marek Gabrsych.

As part of the project, Northumberland College's art & design students were briefed to create a three-screen short film inspired by their visit to ISIS Arts’ inflatable mobile cinema and exhibition space,The Big M, when it was at Woodhorn Museum. Students from all artistic disciplines including fine art, fashion, graphics and photography collaborated to combine the talents of each individual’s skills and interests.

The theme On the Precipice gave them the opportunity to explore contemporary landscape and the effect humans have had on the natural environment. Students interpreted the theme in a number of ways and produced films on gaming culture, popular culture, religion and the natural world.

The exhibition also features a selection of the digital artworks created throughout the North East by various participating schools and youth groups as part of theOn the Precipice workshop programme including: Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy (Gateshead), Cedars Academy (Gateshead), Lingley House Primary School (Gateshead), St. Joseph's Catholic Junior School (Birtley), St. Thomas More R.C. High School (North Shields), VODA Volunteering Centre (North Tyneside), mima Dreamers (Middlesbrough), I Wonder Why? (Middlesbrough), Berwick Academy (Berwick-upon-Tweed), Duchess's Community High School (Alnwick), Berwick Youth Project (Berwick-upon-Tweed) and Longridge Towers School (Berwick-upon-Tweed).
