Multi-media artist Francis Gomila is currently working as Artist in Residence based at Walker Technology College, Newcastle. The project is one of a citywide series of education and community projects leading up to Holocaust Memorial Day in January 2007, when Newcastle will provide the national focus for events taking place around the country.

Francis has been working with four groups of students to produce a number of art works that enable students to explore the theme of identity with particular reference to the Nazi Holocaust. Students have used digital photography to produce a series of images that appear in three projected pieces. In addition, an interactive CD-ROM has been produced showing a split page picture book of eyes, noses and mouths.

Tyneview Primary School in Walker has also been involved in the project. 6th form students have joined Francis at the school, assisting in taking portrait photographs and face painting. A choir of pupils from Tyneview will sing and record the song 'Mad World' as the soundtrack to one of the projected artworks.

The art works will be shown as part of the Holocaust Memorial event that has inspired the theme 'Dignity of Difference.'
