For the first part of the film project ISIS Arts have involved 18 schools, mainly first schools, spread across Northumberland, and have developed project were young people have worked with filmmakers and media artists to make film about themselves and their experiences of living in the county.
The Anthem project has given us the opportunity to work with 17 talented artists and filmmakers. As well as producing their own work they all have a love of working with young people and exchanging ideas and skills.
They are Reuben Abraham, Film Bee, Josie Brookes, Andrew Coats, Lindsay Duncanson, Haltwhistle Film Project, Sheryl Jenkins, Harry Henderson, Chris Madge, Tom Madge, John Quinn, Kelly Richardson, Alan Smith and Robin Webb.
The short films that they have made with the schools are incredibly diverse and an exciting mix of pixelated and digital animations, video art, abstract and experimental 8mm and 16mm film and documentary work. Some are very thought provoking, others poignant and many full of humour.
Young people from 5 High Schools have been given the chance to work with Yeast, a London based film company, and artists Stephen Holmes and Ollie Walker. They have been learning VJ skills and a team of these young people will be helping to put the final film piece together for the event at Sage Gateshead in October.
Schools have a growing interest in film and media work for young people and projects like this are crucial in giving our young people the necessary skills to compete in this growing cultural industry.
